The Last one, that is. The online tickets were sold out for da Vinci's The Last Supper, so we decided to go over to Santa Maria della Grazie to see if we got lucky. As background, The Last Supper was comissioned by Il Moro for the refectory of the convent attached to the church. Beatrice was buried here.
Da Vinci painted The Last Supper, a mural, using tempera (paint with egg base) on gesso (gypsum) that began to deteriorate within a few years. How sad. The last major restoration took 21 years and was completed in 1999.
So, for the score. After I got the bad news about no tickets, a young woman behind me picked up 30 tickets from the agent. I took her for a tour guide and followed her out thinking maybe, just maybe, one of the tour members would not want to see the mural. So, I lurked around watching her pass out the tickets while a couple of the Japanese tourists eyed me warily. Two remained and the guide happily sold them to me for face value. Lurking works!
Thanks to Neal, Tom and Jill for letting Marianne and I use them and see The Last Supper!
